Honeychop Chopped Oat Straw

If your horse or pony prefers straight chaff, Chopped Oat Straw is the perfect feed. Dust extracted, with no molasses or additives, it is packed in 12.5kg clear polythene bales and is natural as well as nutritious.

Chopped Oat Straw is an ideal feed for horses and ponies prone to laminitis and will also help with weight control in your good doer. It will help to satisfy their appetite and keep them full.

Honeychop’s oat straw is a short chop and trials have proven that a short-chop takes longer to chew than a long-chop, which means it prolongs eating time, aids good digestion and keeps your horse or pony occupied for longer.

Oat straw is softer and tends to be more palatable than wheat or barley straw also having a lower lignin content making it easier for a horse to digest.

Our Chopped Oat Straw is best used as a partial hay replacer, which will significantly extend your hay supply. When feeding oat straw as a major part of your horse’s diet it is important to supplement with extra protein, vitamins and minerals. (In accordance with your vets advice).

To give your horse's digestive system time to adjust to the fibrous straw, gradually increase the quantity of straw in the diet over a two week period.

Straw should not be fed to weanlings or yearlings because they do not have the digestive capacity or ability to utilise straw as well as mature, adult horses
